3 Signs Your Garden Soil Is Not Healthy
Healthy soil is happy soil, and makes your garden grow nice and vibrant. There's nothing like feeling that moistness as you plant your garden year after year. But three signs can tell you when your soil is unhealthy.
Dry Soil
The first thing to do is test your garden soil. If it crumbles when you pick it up, the soil is unhealthy. Vital nutrients may be in short supply, so taking care to water it is best. In this case, nothing does it like keeping it moisture and properly irrigated.
Lack of Plant Growth
Your garden should be plush, lush and green. When it is, it's a sign of healthy, rich soil. Good sod that's moist will support a thriving garden. But if very little to nothing grows, then the problem lies in the soil.
Rocky Soil
Soil that's hard and rocky is tough and difficult to break apart. Lack of proper hydration is usually the problem. If your soil is compacted and difficult to work with, growing plants can be a serious problem. Good watering and irrigation are the keys to giving your garden a needed boost.
Two Major Contributors to Soil Gone Bad
Microorganisms, or bacteria and fungi, are among one of the major contributors to dry soil. Another problem is the presence of macroorganisms, or parasites. These are your worms, beetles, and other pests which contribute to soil that's gone bad. If you see either of these problems present, it may be time to call a professional.
