100 Years of Iconic Hairstyles
Some of the greatest trademarks of every decade are the fashion trends that emerge from it. Hairstyles are often the most memorable part of these trends; they're still found to this day in classic films, antique advertisements, and (of course) old family photographs. In the past 100 years alone, a diverse catalog of styles emerged that were all iconic in their own way. Here's a look at some of the most indelible styles of each decade over the past century.
The Bob (1920s)
This one may be making a comeback. Short, straight, and choppy — who doesn't love a classic bob? It's easy to imagine she's in a makeup room getting powdered before stepping out to make her stage debut in front of an audience of women who envy her desirable new cut.
Browband (1920s)
Ah, the fashion captured in the earliest theatrical motion pictures, those spotty black-and-white films at the inception of cinema. The browband style frames her porcelain face perfectly. She looks like a character straight out of The Great Gatsby! Perhaps she's on her way to a well-to-do, high-class event downtown tonight with her fiance.
Eton Crop (1920s)
Did someone say the Addams family? She's pulling it off well, though! She really completed the look perfectly with that outfit and the dark lipstick. Maybe she's hosting an intimate, dimly lit dinner with a few friends. Or perhaps she's on her way to a funeral. Who can say?
